MTV’s original music themed movie “Turn the Beat Around” opens with a scene showing the main character ‘working a dead end job while having the dream of being a professional dancer’ , a theme which runs through the classic disco movie Saturday Night Fever.
There is the mood-setting family dinner table scene showing both the mother and father’s disapproval of their daughter, Zoe (played by Romina D’Ugo) dreams of being a dancer. As a viewer you are quickly drawn into rooting for someone going for their dreams and passion – music and dance.
While the movie does not focus on a retro story of the history disco it is clearly a movie that shows having a true desire and passion for music and dance can result in dreams becoming a reality.
Updated versions of disco classics such as ‘I Feel Love‘ (Donna Summer) and ‘Get Down Tonight‘ (KC and the Sunshine Band) are just a sample of the amazing music played throughout the movie.
The climatic disco and dance sequence and the end of the movie brings together a feeling which will having you wanting to get out, enjoy some music and have a great time – which is what music was made for!
